Why our center

Why choose our center?

Our class length and teaching approach are the ones Kodomo School has used in Japan for many years, so that every child can make the most of their abilities.

Small classes of 3–5

The teacher can see each child’s finger movements and correct them right away when something isn’t quite right.

A Japanese curriculum

The materials and teaching method of Kodomo School, which has taught soroban in Aichi Prefecture since 1976.

Progress at each child’s pace

Checks at the start, middle and end of each term. Children move up only once they are secure at their current level.

Good habits, too

Greeting teachers, sitting with good posture and keeping things tidy, the Japanese way.

Q&A

Questions about classes at the center

My child knows nothing about soroban yet. Can they keep up?

Yes. Every new student starts at Level 0: getting to know the soroban, how to sit, how to move the beads and how to read numbers. Classes are small, with 3–5 children, so the teacher can follow each child closely.

How many sessions a week should we choose?

It depends on your child’s schedule and goals. With more sessions, children practice more regularly and progress faster. After the trial lesson, we will recommend a suitable course.

Does my child need their own soroban?

Yes. At the center, each child uses their own soroban to practice both in class and at home. We will explain what you need when you register.

What if my child can’t keep up with the others?

The teacher gives extra help during class, sets extra practice for home and follows up in the next session. Checks at the start, middle and end of each term make sure no child is left behind.

Does the center close for holidays? Where can I find the schedule?

Holiday closures and other announcements are posted in News.
