A Japanese-standard club, with no burden on your school
An authentic Japanese program with a 50-year history, supported by MEXT’s EDU-Port Nippon, and run inside your school by a partner who takes full responsibility for quality.

A difference parents notice when they compare schools
Parents compare schools by what happens after regular classes. A Japanese-standard club is a visible difference.
Authentic
50 years of soroban education in Japan, a Japanese certifying body, and a Japanese expert based in Hanoi.
Recognized
Selected by EDU-Port Nippon, the platform led by Japan’s Ministry of Education, for 2026–2027.
Rooted in Hanoi
Working in Hanoi since 2022, with a Vietnamese team and Vietnamese textbooks.
No burden
Instructors, curriculum, equipment, regular checks and events are all provided by KSC.
What KSC provides, and what the school provides
KSC provides KSC
- Instructors trained to the Japanese standard, present at every session
- Curriculum and textbooks in Vietnamese, adapted from the Japanese method
- Sorobans and teaching materials, including a large demonstration soroban
- Regular checks and feedback on each child’s progress
- The Soroban SmartMath Cup, our annual inter-school competition
- Information for parents: introduction sessions, trial lessons and registration support
The school provides School
- A classroom and one weekly time slot after regular classes
- Help informing parents about the club (a notice, a Zalo group, a short information session)
- A contact person for scheduling and coordination
There is no cost to the school and no need for extra teaching staff.
Start with a free trial session
Before club registration opens, we run a 30-minute trial session for grade 1 and 2 students, so children and parents can see what soroban is about. Our goal: every child has at least one moment of “I did it!”
The 30-minute trial session
Based on the first lesson of the club program.
- 1Opening greeting · 2 minStand up, bow and say “Onegaishimasu” – a first taste of Japanese manners.
- 2Meet the soroban · 6 minUpper bead = 5, lower bead = 1. How to place the soroban and how to sit properly.
- 3Zero and the numbers 0–9 · 10 minClear the soroban to zero in one motion, then the whole class sets the numbers 0 to 9 together.
- 4The first calculation · 8 minThe thumb pushes beads up, the index finger brings them down. Try 1 + 2 and 4 − 1.
- 5Closing greeting · 4 minLook back at what the children could do today, then say “Arigatō gozaimashita”.
Supporting the 2018 math curriculum
Soroban does not replace math lessons at school; it gives the same content a second form – through the hands and through images. KSC’s learning path runs alongside Vietnam’s General Education Curriculum for Mathematics (Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT).
- Three points in common with the homeroom teacher: place value; comparing and ordering numbers; and mental calculation, which the curriculum requires in every grade.
- Times tables are recited in Vietnamese and linked to the school’s multiplication and division tables.
| Grade 1 | Numbers up to 100, addition and subtraction without carrying or borrowing, mental calculation within 10 → Level 0 |
|---|---|
| Grade 2 | Numbers up to 1,000, addition and subtraction with carrying and borrowing, the 2 and 5 times tables → Level 1 and the start of Level 2A |
| Grade 3 | Numbers up to 100,000, the 2–9 times tables, simple mental multiplication and division → Level 1B and Level 2 |
Starting a Soroban Club at your school
From the first meeting to the first lesson usually takes one to two months, depending on the school’s calendar. New clubs usually open at two points in the year: after Tet and at the start of the school year in September.
Meet and discuss
We learn about your school’s needs, timetable and club system. A trial lesson or a parent information session if helpful.
Sign the agreement
Schedule, class size and terms of cooperation are confirmed in a simple agreement.
KSC launches the club

Review and events
Feedback on the children’s progress, a review meeting with the school, and the SmartMath Cup.
