The Japanese Soroban Math Club at your child’s school

Lessons follow the method and curriculum of Kodomo School, which has taught soroban in Japan for 50 years. Alongside calculation skills, every lesson also builds Japanese learning habits such as greeting and keeping things tidy.

How it works

How the club runs

Every session is taught by a KSC instructor, with KSC’s curriculum and equipment. The school opens its doors; KSC takes responsibility for everything inside the classroom.

01 · Students

Primary school, grades 1 and 2

The best age to start. Grade 3 can be added if the school wishes.

02 · Schedule

1 session a week · 60 minutes

After regular classes, in the school’s club time slot. Depending on the timetable, a session may run 45–60 minutes.

03 · Class size

10–15 students per instructor

Small enough to give each child attention. Larger groups are split into two classes.

04 · Curriculum

Japanese standard, adapted for Vietnam

KSC’s Vietnamese textbook Vui học Soroban, following the Japanese method step by step.

05 · Equipment

Loaned in year 1 · purchased from year 2

Every child uses a real soroban from the very first session. KSC brings everything to the classroom.

06 · Progress

Checks every term

At the start, middle and end of each term. A certificate on completing each level, presented at a report session with parents.
